The three men, whose sentences were announced by the Westchester County District Attorney's Office on Tuesday, May 2, took part in a June 2021 gang assault in Yonkers that targeted a 33-year-old man and left him with severe injuries, DA officials said.

The assault was carried out by the “300 Bloodhound Brims” street gang.

The defendants who received sentences included:

  • Vance Major, age 23, who was sentenced on Monday, May 1 to eight years in state prison and five years of supervised release after pleading guilty to second-degree gang assault;
  • Drayquan Green, age 21, who was sentenced on Friday, Jan. 20 to five years in state prison and five years of supervised release after pleading guilty to first-degree gang assault;
  • Develle Coates, age 21, who was sentenced on Friday, Jan. 13 to 12 years in state prison and five years of supervised release after being found guilty of first-degree gang assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

On the day of the assault, June 17, 2021, around 9 p.m., the three men followed the victim into a convenience store on North Broadway in Yonkers, confronted him, and then left the store.

As the victim left the store, Major hit him in the shoulder with a glass liquor bottle and the three men chased him as he ran away.

Coates then jumped from behind a car and hit the victim in the head with another glass liquor bottle, rendering him unconscious. The attack then continued and the victim was struck and kicked in the head and body multiple times by numerous individuals, including Green, DA officials said.

The victim was also robbed of jewelry during the attack, which was caught on surveillance video.

Following the assault, the victim was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla and was treated for protracted disfigurement, facial scarring, multiple lost or chipped teeth, and a traumatic brain injury. He now continues to suffer from short-term memory loss and brain fog and has to take anti-seizure medication as well as medication for migraines.

The attack was so violent that the surveillance video that had been posted by Yonkers Police on YouTube was taken down by the company in March 2023 for violating its violent or graphic content policy.

Nine other people involved in the assault were arrested, convicted, and sentenced, the DA's Office said.
